Songs in Flight is a multilayered collaboration with leading Black American poets, composers, and performers. It includes haiku that Crystal Simone Smith wrote in response to runaway slave ads.
Some of the haiku written for Songs in Flight are combined with tanka in Crystal’s new poetry collection, Moonlit Map: Navigating the Road to Freedom, which will be published in the spring of 2024 by Duke University Press.
